March for Life Gets Media Coverage It Deserves

Friday marked the 44th annual March for Life. Hundreds of thousands of Americans from all over the country descended to Washington, D.C., to participate in this year’s March. Yours truly even played a role in the March as host of March for Life TV.

In terms of participants, it’s estimated that hundreds of thousands  people participated in the March for Life, making it the largest MFL rally to date.

Here’s a social media backdown for March for Life, as of 8pm ET on January 27, 2017:

#WhyWeMarch was used over 42,000 times on Instagram, while #MarchForLife was used over 44,000 times.

Per Keyhole, the #WhyWeMarch hashtag had the following reach on January 27, 2017:

March for Life trended on Facebook and was discussed by over 870,000 people (in DC area) and over 1 million people (in L.A.) on the platform at one point:

Even mainstream media outlets showed up to cover the event, largely because President Trump shamed ABC anchor David Muir for not giving the March proper and adequate coverage.

After Vice President Pence was announced as a speaker, the media started to flock to the event. The March was covered by Washington Post, New York Times, Fox News, ABC News, CNN, PBS NewsHour, CBS News, and NBC News, just to name a few. (All Facebook Live streams from national and local stations can be found here.) Unfortunately, many labelled the March anti-abortion and anti-choice when they could have accurately noted it is pro-life. Shame. However, these are baby steps towards recognition. Any stride to fair coverage should be embraced.

In my role as March for Life TV anchor, I encouraged participants at the march and those tuning in from outside of Washington, D.C., to use the hashtag #WhyWeMarch.
