March for Life

March for Life approached me in January 2017 to be their March for Life TV host. There was enthusiasm and widespread support for the event, but MFL wanted to boost online and in-person engagement.

The strategy: hosting Facebook Live broadcasts to encourage online participation across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using hashtag #WhyWeMarch.

From January 10-27, 2017, I hosted 11 Facebook Live broadcasts on March for Life’s Facebook page. These videos accrued an estimated 875,000 views.  As a result of this extensive social media campaign, March for Life 2017 garnered the most media attention in its 44th year of operation

Here’s a breakdown of social media reach for March for Life:

Facebook

As a result of the hashtag #WhyWeMarch, #MarchforLife, over 1 million people were discussing the event on Facebook.

Instagram

Over 42K people used the #WhyWeMarch hashtag, while over 44K used the #MarchForLife hashtag.

Twitter

Twitter: #WhyWeMarch reached over 2.5 million people on January 27th, while #MarchForLife reached close to 27 million people on January 27th, 2017.

As a result of March for Life’s #WhyWeMarch social media campaign, here’s what the group accomplished:

—Over half a million people attended the 44th annual March for Life

—M4L saw the largest amount of online engagement in their 44 years of operation

—Vice President Mike Pence—first VP ever to speak at M4L—gave keynote address

—All major TV outlets and news publications were present to cover the event
