Southeastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA)
The Southeastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA) was in need of social media strategy and Millennial outreach help. They engaged me for a three-month contract—from November 2017 to February 2018. Established in 1964, SEOPA is one of the oldest outdoor writers associations in existence. In an effort to help rebrand themselves and draw in younger members, they enlisted my help to jumpstart those efforts.
The strategy: Manage and assess social media strategy promoting SEOPA members and recruiting new Millennial members
Here’s a snapshot of my tasks from my three-month contract with SEOPA:
- Preparing weekly reports highlighting growth, strategies used, and custom-made charts to track my progress
- Managing SEOPA’s Facebook page and creating/overseeing SEOPA Twitter and Instagram accounts
- Determining the best posting times across SEOPA’s social media accounts
- Working with and reporting to SEOPA’s Executive Director, Lisa Snuggs, as laid out by our contract
- Coordinating with SEOPA members on best posts to share across social media
Here are some notable benchmarks I reached handling SEOPA’s social media accounts
- Growing SEOPA’s Facebook page 64% organically and tilting them over 1,000 followers
- Growing SEOPA’s Twitter account from 0 to roughly 200 followers organically
- Growing SEOPA’s Instagram account from 0 to nearly 300 followers organically
- Recruiting nearly 50 potential SEOPA members through online recruiting methods across social media
As a result of my participation, SEOPA boosted their social media presence and got some more Millennials recruits. They expressed to me their hope to see similar growth in the future.
