Ten years ago this month, I began an internship at Young America’s Foundation Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara, CA.
The organization “is committed to ensuring that increasing numbers of young Americans understand and are inspired by the ideas of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values. As the principal outreach organization of the Conservative Movement, the Foundation introduces thousands of American youth to these principles. We accomplish our mission by providing essential conferences, seminars, educational materials, internships, and speakers to young people across the country.”
I was accepted into their internship program for running an active YAF chapter and hosting a viral campus event at UC-San Diego with David Horowitz in May 2010.
The two months I spent in Santa Barbara were magical and life-changing. I picked up new skills, mastered networking, and came away from this experience more prepared to take conservative ideas with me back to campus and to Washington, D.C., after I graduated in 2012.
I retired from political activism in 2016, but am still involved in conservative politics from a consulting and commentary side. I’m grateful to YAF for affording me this experience.
