Client Successes in 2018

2018 was a whirlwind but good year for client work for my business. I had more short-term and long-term client projects, saw my income grow (but not yet to the level I want it to be at), and built up my paid freelancing credentials. I serviced dozens of clients this past year, with many projects leading to immense success and growth for the parties involved.

Here’s a snapshot into some of my favorite client work from the past year:

Book Publicity for Stay Away from the Libertarians! By Remso W. Martinez

From June 11-July 11, 2018, independent journalist and libertarian activist Remso W. Martinez entertained me for a month-long contract to promote his inaugural book Stay Away From the Libertarians!

Here’s a snapshot of my tasks from my contact with Remso W. Martinez:

  • Drafted and sent out press releases on behalf of Remso W. Martinez
  • Sent periodical updates to media members/influencers to promote or review the book
  • Documented any press mentions or reviews of the book
  • Reached out to book stores and libraries about having Remso speak about his book
  • Posted onto Remso’s Facebook accounts

Here are some notable benchmarks I witnessed while handling press relations for Remso W. Martinez:

As a result of our collaboration, Remso sold 3,000 copies —both print and online — of his book, well exceeding his goal.

CFACT – “Hunting is Conservation” Speech at West Virginia University (April 2018)

Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow’s (CFACT) Campus Division — Collegians for a Constructive Tomorrow— was in need of a campus lecturer to discuss the benefits of hunting as a means of conservation for a talk at West Virginia University for April 2018. A friend of mine and former employee for the organization pitched me to present on Facebook best practices. CFACT describes itself as the “national, student-based nonprofit that believes in promoting prosperity, protecting liberty, and enjoying nature. Free markets, private property rights, and environmental stewardship are the keys to a prosperous society and constructive tomorrow for people and nature too.” The campus division is led by Adam Houser and Graham Beduze.

My lecture “How Hunting Promotes Conservation” touched upon the following:

  • Discussing the psychology behind why people go hunting in our nation
  • Highlighting the history of the conservation movement in the U.S.
  • Emphasizing figures highlighting contributions of hunters to habitat and wildlife restoration efforts
  • Discussed importance of Pittman-Robertson Act
  • Detailed the North American Wildlife Conservation Model and its importance as code of ethics
  • Proposed / offered solutions on how to close the gap on hunting participation
  • Participating in Q& A

As a result of my participation, members of the WVU College Republicans and Turning Point USA chapters said they are better prepared to argue the conservation benefits of hunting and true environmentalism. They expressed to me their hope to see this replicated elsewhere across the country.

Social Media Strategy – Southeastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA)

The Southeastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA) was in need of social media strategy and Millennial outreach help. They engaged me for a three-month contract—from November 2017 to February 2018. Established in 1964, SEOPA is one of the oldest outdoor writers associations in existence. In an effort to help rebrand themselves and draw in younger members, they enlisted my help to jumpstart those efforts.

Here’s a snapshot of my tasks from my three-month contract with SEOPA:

  • Preparing weekly reports highlighting growth, strategies used, and custom-made charts to track my progress
  • Managing SEOPA’s Facebook page and creating/overseeing SEOPA Twitter and Instagram accounts
  • Determining the best posting times across SEOPA’s social media accounts
  • Working with and reporting to SEOPA’s Executive Director, Lisa Snuggs, as laid out by our contract
  • Coordinating with SEOPA members on best posts to share across social media

Here are some notable benchmarks I reached handling SEOPA’s social media accounts

  • Growing SEOPA’s Facebook page 64% organically and tilting them over 1,000 followers
  • Growing SEOPA’s Twitter account from 0 to roughly 200 followers organically
  • Growing SEOPA’s Instagram account from 0 to nearly 300 followers organically
  • Recruiting nearly 50 potential SEOPA members through online recruiting methods across social media

As a result of my participation, SEOPA boosted their social media presence and got some more Millennials recruits.

These are just a small sampling of 2018 client work successes. Some client work is still ongoing, while other client work is not meant to be publicly discussed at the behest of the client.
