Here’s How to Activate Your Twitter Chronological Timeline

Twitter is slowly but surely redeeming itself with its latest announcement: the return of the Twitter Chronological Timeline. Hooray!

Like other social media platforms, Twitter changes its algorithm—sometimes to its and users’ detriment. Recently, Twitter would just show “Show the best Tweets first” to users. Here’s their methodology behind this display of tweets:

  • Tweets you are likely to care about most will show up first in your timeline. We choose them based on accounts you interact with most, Tweets you engage with, and much more. You can find instructions for how to turn off this behavior here.
  • You may see a summary of the most interesting Tweets you might not have seen, labeled as In case you missed it.
  • You may also see content such as promoted Tweets or Retweets in your timeline.
  • Additionally, when we identify a Tweet, an account to follow, or other content that’s popular or relevant, we may add it to your timeline. This means you will sometimes see Tweets from accounts you don’t follow. We select each Tweet using a variety of signals, including how popular it is and how people in your network are interacting with it. Our goal is to show you content on your Home timeline that you’re most interested in and contributes to the conversation in a meaningful way, such as content that is relevant, credible, and safe.
  • Clicking or tapping anywhere on a Tweet in your timeline expands the Tweet, so you can see photos, videos, and other information related to that Tweet.

How do you change settings to restore your Twitter timeline to a chronological one? Easy. Here are the steps:

Click the upper right section of your Twitter profile on your Profile Picture then hit the Settings & Privacy option on the drop-down menu

Scroll down to “Show the best Tweets first”

Uncheck this option

Voila! Chronological timeline is back.

Now if Jack and Twitter could manage to unveil an Edit button…That would be wonderful.
